Filming at Chao Ley Village

the lighting conditions amongst the chaoley shacks were challenging. bright pools of sunlight and really dark where the kids were. but we had to keep them in the shade because it was so hot. the sound on the radio mics came out really ugly and distorted which was a shame because they sang such lovely songs. we may have to go back and record it. if only our senheiser 416 had been working.

illya (DoP) using his PD170 standing in the sea. I'm whispering who to pick up on as mark and shanti improvise with a sea gypsy child. Pim is giving instructions to the little boy. Pim has done a lot of releif work with that village and a lot of people remember her working when the tsunami hit.

sea water is death to cameras and equipment. illya protects his PD 170 from celyn's enthusiasm.

even if it meant wading into the sea the crew were diligent with slating shots. this means our A and B cameras ( Illya operated one PD 170 and I operated the other)are synching up nicely now as we edit. (well lewis the editor has to synch them!) but we couldnt afford the technology to jam synch them digitally
